Commentary on streaking

In a newspaper article on October 21, 2008, it was reported that "Every pupil in one year at a top private school has been suspended after pranksters set off fireworks, blocked traffic and streaked across campus."

Similarly, another article on December 14, 2006 reported that "running across campus clad in nothing but their underwear" had become a tradition at the Westwood Campus of the UCLA.

This is an unacceptable practice that needs to be stopped by the authorities. There are three very important reasons for this.

Firstly, the streakers show a lack of respect for others. This is because streaking is an act of indecent exposure that causes discomfort in other people. Many people find this practice unacceptable and thus streaking would be considered a form of harassment to these people.

Secondly, the streakers show a lack of respect for themselves. Many “cameramen” go to “annual streaking events” to take photos. By exposing themselves, these streakers are showing that they don’t mind being humiliated in this way, thus showing a lack of respect for themselves.

Thirdly, streaking is often accompanied by destructive acts like setting off fireworks in the street, running over cars etc. This causes damage to public property and endangers the safety of others as well as themselves.

Thus streaking is an unacceptable practice that must be stopped.
